The Trust

Giving grants for educational purposes to applicants who can demonstrate a need.

Alvechurch Grammar SchoolThe Alvechurch Grammar School Trust manages an endowment fund with the aim of providing funds for educational purposes for young people within the locality of Hopwood, Rowney Green, Alvechurch and parts of Barnt Green.

It provides significant grants to individuals, who otherwise would be unable to afford their chosen activity.  Grants are also given to local youth organisations.

In the past 12 months the trust has made more than 30 awards.  These may take the form of assistance towards the cost of books or IT equipment required for further education.

More excitingly, grants are also provided for educational trips, both at home and abroad.  Recent awards have involved visits to Honduras, Argentina, Nepal, Uganda, various European countries and destinations in the UK.

One such example is Laura who received an award to take part in a community project in Argentina.

She says: “A grant from the AGT enabled me to fulfil my dream of travelling to Argentina during my compulsory year abroad as a student of languages.

“Thanks to the financial support of the AGT, I was able to make a real difference and of course, return to university speaking fluent Spanish!“

The trust chairman, Jerry Trafford, says the trust is focused on distributing as much income as possible each year, and is keen to hear from more young people like Laura who are under 25, living in the area, and who could benefit from assistance for a worthwhile project that they may otherwise not be able to afford.
Applications from youth organisations with an educational emphasis are also welcomed.

The Trust still continues to flourish and much of the money is invested to provide an annual income, which is given out in the form of grants for educational purposes to applicants who can demonstrate a need.

The Governors are appointed by the three schools in the area, Alvechurch Parish Council, The King Edward’s Foundation and Worcester County Council. Two additional Governors are co-opted from local people.

The Governors meet 3 times per year and welcome applications from individuals within the catchment area and also youth organisations that operate within the same area.

Application forms can be downloaded from here or obtained from the Clerk to the Governors
whose details are given below.

Applications should be submitted by January 1st, May 1st and September 1st each year.
Evidence of need should be demonstrated and is incorporated in the application form.
